#212: I Count Too
"Every time I come to one of these events I am astounded by the people I meet… World travelers. Engineers. Artists and designers. Poker reporters. Podcasters. Web developers. Journalists. Lawyers. Military veterans. Members of the government. Restaurant owners. Teachers. Scientists. Athletes. Analysts. Photographers. Dreamers. Builders. Achievers. I always feel so small. And then it strikes me: I AM HERE TOO. What will I bring to the table? I count too."
Here we are at #7 of my notebook doodles inspired by the mid-March #SpaceX3 #NASASocial event. But really, this is inspired by much more than that. Over the last three years I’ve had so many tremendous opportunities to see amazing things and meet incredible, talented, and diverse people through my involvement in NASASocial, STARTexperiment, and more. I’ve seen all kinds of passions from all walks of life. I have heard some amazing and some heartbreaking stories. I have seen so much triumph and intelligence and bravery.
I love to stop and marvel at the variety of people I get to know, and it always leaves me feeling small and in awe. Sometimes, though, that awe turns to intimidation…. how did I get here? How can I hold my own in a crowd like this? I don’t know as much… haven’t experienced as much… I’m just an ordinary girl.
Aaaaand then I remember: everyone here is an “ordinary person” just like me. They’re ordinary people that decided to be brave and pursue what they love. And this ordinary is really an extraordinary thing. They’re not defined by what they do. There’s more to them than that.
And there’s more to me than that.
And there’s more to you than that.
So what story do we bring to the table? What unique perspectives and passions will we contribute?
We are in this mix also. We count too.
